Stenner Glen is unique in San Luis Obispo as the only academic dormitory facility located near Cal Poly. Stenner Glen's buffet offers a wide variety of meal plans to suit everyone’s schedule and budget. Where is Stenner Glen located?

The address is 1050 Foothill Blvd. San Luis Obispo, CA 93405, located just a few blocks from Cal Poly. Most students either walk or ride a bike to campus. STENNER GLEN is also located within walking distance of shopping and other services. The city bus service is free of charge for Cal Poly students carrying school identification. Can I bring a vehicle?

Parking at STENNER GLEN is by permit parking only. A limited number of permits are available at the cost of $350 for vehicles and $175 for motorcycles for the academic year.

What does it cost to live at Stenner Glen?

A $300 reservation/holding fee is required upon signing the lease agreement. The reservation/holding fee is refunded only if the student does not, as intended, attend Cal Poly or Cuesta College. The reservation/holding fee is not prepaid rent. A $500 security deposit is due with the first rent payment. The security deposit will be refunded when the resident moves out minus any damage charges, excluding normal wear and tear. The total cost depends on the room, meal and payment plan chosen. Stenner Glen houses approximately 500 residents in 13 three-story buildings.

Are the residents mostly freshman?

Stenner Glen provides 6 buildings for Cal Poly upperclassmen, 2 buildings for Cal Poly freshman, 1 building for Cuesta upperclassmen and 4 buildings for Cuesta freshman.

What is the move-in date at Stenner Glen?

Cuesta College move in date is Saturday August 16, 2008 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Cal Poly’s move in date is Saturday September 20, 2008 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. If you are attending Cal Poly’s WOW week, you may move in on Saturday September 13, 2008 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at no extra charge.

Does Stenner Glen have Resident Assistants?

Each building has a Resident Assistant (RA) living on the bottom floor. They are the students primary contact should they have any questions or need assistance. They also provide security and maintenance checks, as well as assist with social activities for their buildings.

How does a resident become a Resident Assistant?

The resident must live here at least one year before they may apply to be an RA.

What type of security is provided?

In addition to 24 hour on-site management personnel, Stenner Glen employs full-time uniformed security guards from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. every evening.

What are the rooms like at Stenner Glen?

Residents live in same-sex suites. There are six suites per building.

In the Upperclassmen buildings there are a maximum of 5 to 6 students per suite in private bedrooms.

In the Freshman buildings there are a maximum of 8 to 9 students per suite in private and shared bedrooms.

Each suite has a living room and double bathroom. Bedrooms are furnished with an extra long twin bed, desk, chair, 4-drawer dresser and a 4' by 2' closet. The living rooms are also furnished. More Room Information.

What size beds are provided ?

How are roommates selected?

The “Room Assignment Information” section of the rental application is used for roommate selections. Answers to this section will provide us with the information needed to match roommates based on factors such as habits, interests, age and major. Room or Suitemate requests will only be accepted until July 1st. If conflicts arise we make every effort possible to relocate residents to a different room or suite.

What are the meal plan options?

Weekly plans of 7, 10 or 14 meals are the available plans. A minimum meal plan of 7 meals per week is required. In addition to a variety of entrees, residents can make a deli sandwich, create a salad at the salad bar and enjoy a selection of drinks and desserts. For meal plan prices go to Price List.

What are the buffet hours?

STENNER GLEN’S buffet is open from 7 am to 7 pm, Monday thru Friday. Hot breakfast is served 7 am to 9 am, hot lunch is served 11 am to 1 pm and hot dinner is served 5 pm to 7 pm. On the weekends, the buffet is open from 10 am to 6 pm. Hot brunch is served from 10 am to 1 pm and hot dinner is served from 4 pm to 6 pm. The salad bar and deli bar are always available when the dining room is open.

Can you take a lunch to go?

Sack lunches are available until 10:30 am on school days. A sack lunch is a meal marked off your meal plan.

What are the policies regarding:

Noise? Quiet hours start at 9pm Sunday thru Thursday and 12am Friday and Saturday. After these hours, any amplified sounds (music) or activity loud enough to be heard outside a resident's own room must be curtailed. Subwoofers are prohibited.

Smoking? Smoking is not allowed in any buildings, rooms or common areas of the complex. A designated outdoor smoking area is provided next to building 12.

Alcohol and illegal drugs? Stenner Glen does not allow consumption or use of alcohol in any common area of the complex. Alcohol may only be consumed by persons 21 years of age or older in the privacy of their own room. Illegal drugs and/or drug paraphernalia are not allowed anywhere in or on the complex and will be confiscated if discovered.

Do residents have to vacate the premises during breaks?

No, but no food services are provided.

The laundry room is next to the pool. Machines are laundry card operated; no quarters.

What type of internet connection is available?

High-Speed Ethernet internet connection is available in each room, free of charge. Two connections are available in a double room.

Wireless internet is available in the dining room, rec room and study hall. The rooms are not equipped for wireless.

If I am having trouble with my internet what do I do?

Go to the Business Office to report any internet problems. If you have a problem with your computer or any software you must make your own arrangements to solve your computer or software malfunctions.

What items do residents commonly need to bring?

Sheets, blankets, pillows, bedspread, desk lamp, radio, clock, trash can, phone, computer, toiletries, etc…, anything you believe that you will need. Please remember if you forget something, there are plenty of stores in the area.

Are pets allowed?

No. Fish tanks are allowed to a maximum of 50 gallons.

What appliances are allowed?

One microwave and one refrigerator at a maximum size of 4.4 cubic feet are allowed in each room and may be rented locally. No other appliances are allowed. Appliances are prohibited in the common room.

Can the meal plan be changed at any time?

  • Prior to July 1st, the meal plan can be changed by submitting a request in writing to stennerglen@stennerglen.com at no charge.
  • During the academic year, students have the first 7 days of each quarter/semester to change a meal plan. A form must be filled out in the Business Office. Any changes must be authorized by the Guarantor (Payor). The fee for changing a meal plan is $38.

When are payments due?

The first installment payment - quarterly, semester, monthly, or one annual payment - is due on July 1, 2008.

Who do I make payments payable to?

Make payments payable to Stenner Glen and mail to 1050 Foothill Blvd. San Luis Obispo, CA 93405. You may also personally deliver payments to the Student Administration Office and/or the Business Office. There is a 24/7 secure rent drop in the door to the Student Administration Office.

What is the payment grace period?

Payments are due on the first of the month; you have a 5 day grace period. Payments must be received by the 5th day of the month. The $25 late fee will be charged on the 6th day of the month.

Do you send out statements or receipts?

No. We do not send out statements. It is the resident's responsibility to know when payments are due. We do not send receipts, if you make the payment in person, you can receive a written receipt if requested.

When are my payments due if I am receiving Financial Aid?

You must mail in a copy of your Award Summary; which can be obtained through your online Cal Poly account; prior to July 1st.  You must be receiving at least $5,600 total per quarter in order to use this payment schedule. The holding fee, security deposit and parking fee must be paid on the specified dates; they cannot be covered by financial aid.

Can the beds be raised?

Yes but you must use an actual bed raiser. No cinder blocks or bricks are allowed.

Can residents hang up posters on the walls?

Yes - with tape or thumbtacks only. No nails or screws.

Do we have to clean?

It is your responsibility to keep your room clean. We provide housekeepers that come in once a week to vacuum the living rooms and clean the bathrooms if they are not cluttered.

Can we bring our own furniture?

Yes. Please use your judgment wisely. If you are sharing a double room and are anticipating bringing a queen size bed, think again. Remember the room size and be considerate to your potential roommate. Please notify us by email at stennerglen@stennerglen.com prior to move in or notify your RA and sign the required furniture moving sheet upon arrival.

Does Stenner Glen have a study hall?

Yes. Our study hall is located in the Stenner Common area next to the dining room. In addition to our regular study hall, the dining room provides a study hall with FREE tutors every Sunday through Thursday night from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
